In Celebration of Women’s Equality Day: Keds x S’well

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2017

In honor of Women’s Equality Day on August 26th — a celebration of the 19th Amendment and right for women in the United States to vote — S’well and Keds have teamed up to bring you the limited-edition Empowered Bottle. Not only a reminder that you can be and do anything, the bottle is a reflection of the entrepreneurial spirit that both S’well and Keds were founded on. Grown out of a friendship with two leading ladies, Keds CMO Emily Culp and our own founder Sarah Kauss, this #LadiesFirst partnership and the community it champions, came to be. Reflecting on their own stories of empowerment, both Emily and Sarah share advice as it relates to business and entrepreneurship below.

What does female empowerment mean to you?

Believing that you can do anything, then doing it.

Why is it important to support other women in business?

Even the most confident of entrepreneurs experience uncertainty. I’m living proof that an amazing network of wise and wonderful people can help you achieve your biggest dreams.

Do you have any words of wisdom for young women looking to start a career in business or entrepreneurship?

Don’t wait for your idea to be perfect. Talk to people, learn from others and bring it to life, knowing your idea will evolve over time.

Who are the women that inspired you growing up?

My mom! She was an entrepreneur when I was young. She led the family, the Girl Scout Troop, and gave me the confidence, support, and rules to live by. She is still my best cheerleader and friend.

Words to live by….

You will do foolish things, but do them with enthusiasm!

What does female empowerment mean to you?

It’s about providing freedom and rights to all women no matter age, race, or socioeconomic position. Ultimately, it’s the quest for true equality where all voices and ideas are heard.

Why is it important to support other women in business?

I believe in the golden rule – treat others how you want to be treated – so I strive to provide opportunities for the women on my team that I may or may not have received myself.

Do you have any words of wisdom for young women looking to start a career in business or entrepreneurship?

Embrace smart risk. Don’t be afraid to fail; just do it quickly, learn from it, and go faster and further.

Who are the women that inspired you growing up?

My teachers, who taught me that being curious is an asset and that it’s okay to love both math and art. My mother and stepmother, who showed me that you can be strong, bright, driven, and compassionate — all at once.

Words to live by….

Treat others how you want to be treated. Also, make sure you let your inner child out.

Celebrate the women in your life by gifting them the Empowered bottle, available for purchase here.
