S’well Partners with The RBG Workout

Don’t Worry, There’s a Custom Bottle Involved

Tuesday, October 17th, 2017

There are so many reasons to be inspired by Ruth Bader Ginsburg: there’s the fact that she was the second woman ever appointed to the Supreme Court, and that she still sits on the bench at the age of 84. There’s her revolving collection of accessories she wears to spice up her robe. And, of course, there is all she has done to empower women and oppose gender discrimination through her myriad rulings. But if we need one more reason to obsess over the feminist icon, it’s how incredibly fit she is. Ginsburg credits this to her personal trainer, Bryant Johnson, who works with her twice a week to stay in good health and great shape. (RBG calls him the “most important person in her life”.) Now Johnson’s seemingly magic training sessions are available in book form in The RBG Workout, out from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt this month. What makes it even better? It’s illustrated.

To celebrate the release of the book, S’well has teamed up with the RBG Workout crew and created a custom bottle featuring the Justice herself, to be given out at the launch workout events. Here at S’well, we do everything we can to support healthy living and proper hydration and, being a woman-owned company, we love to support leading ladies—and we couldn’t think of a more fitting (pun intended) partnership. Read on for a Q&A with Bryant Johnson—who has his own inspiring surprises up his sleeve, too.

Q: What’s one thing about Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg that’s just S’well?

A: Her consistency and steadfastness.

Q: What’s one misconception about exercise that you’re hoping The RBG Workout solves?

You’re never too old to do something.

Q: Any advice for those looking to start a fitness regimen with a busy schedule?

A: KISS it. Keep It Simple for Success (10- 15 minutes a day to start). Just do one small thing, or just start with one exercise in the book and do a different one each day.

Q: Best words of wisdom received from Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg?

A: Her actions were the best advice to me. She trusted me and the process. So I would say “Trust the process” until you have a reason not to.

Q: If you only had time to do one exercise from the RBG workout, what would it be and why?

A: If at home or the office where you don’t care if someone sees you, “Plank” because in my opinion it is one of the best exercises for overall core strength and conditioning.  If you want to be a little less distracting, try “Bench sit and stand,” the last exercise in the book. This, in my opinion, is also a great exercise for toning the core while at the same time increasing strength and power in the glutes, hamstrings and quads, which will also aid in balance and stabilization.

Q: Lastly, what do you keep in your S’well?

That’s too easy, H2O, because it tastes so swell in my bottle. Remember, K.I.S.S. it!
