The sun dresses and shorts have finally been put away. It’s officially s’weater weather! We’re ready to welcome in and celebrate the colder temperatures. As we patiently wait for all of the holiday festivities that are soon to come, here are a few suggestions of things you can do in the meantime:
1. Rock a tacky holiday sweater or Drake-inspired turtleneck like this one from Acne Studios.
2. Whether it’s on your local pond that’s frozen over or at the Winter Village in Bryant Park, get outside and go ice skating.
3. Get in the kitchen and cook up a holiday treat! If you need some inspiration, check out some of our favorite recipes on our pinterest page.
4. Curl up with hot tea and that book you’ve been meaning to read. We recommend The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.
5. Netflix and chill warm up with takeout from our friends at Postmates.
6. Send your seasons greetings or a thank you note with these cards from Gramr – the holidays are the perfect time to show you care.
7. Grab a seasonal brew from our friends over at Starbucks – now selling limited edition S’well bottles in stores across the US.
Let us know what your favorite s’weater weather activities are by tagging @swellbottle or #swellbottle on social media.
As you may have already heard, S’well is (still) celebrating our 5th birthday. We loved getting to give 5 lucky winners birthday gifts, but the S’well team wanted to celebrate too. Last night, we gathered with 300 of our closest friends and family at Baby’s All Right in Williamsburg for a night of drinking, music and S’well. And with a little help from our friends at Universal Music Group, we had an exclusive performance from Vaults (recently featured on the 50 Shades of Grey Soundtrack). Thanks to everyone who came out last night, we hope you had as much fun as we did!
We’re just about halfway through the summer and despite the unbearable temperatures and humidity we’ve been facing here in NYC, this summer has not been a bummer! We’ve compiled a list of some of the things we’re favoring in NYC this season:
On The Sea:
What’s better than oysters & rosé on a boat? Probably nothing. Spend your Summer Fridays on the Grand Banks oyster boat overlooking the Hudson River with views of the Freedom Tower and Statue of Liberty.
If you have an Instagram, then you know that this season’s hot spot outside of Manhattan is The Surf Lodge in Montauk. Currently dripping in rainbows courtesy of artist Jen Stark, the place is also dripping with celebrities.
On (Roof)Top of the World:
The S’well team is #blessed to have this view at the S’well bottle HQ. You might see an employee or two run up the staircase to hold whatever food of choice in the air with the skyline as the ideal background.
You have not experienced ice cream until you’ve tried Van Leeuwen’s recent special flavor, Honey Comb. This frozen scoop of heaven is unbelievably creamy and complimented by chunks of crispy honey comb that mixed in. Run and get a scoop before team S’well eats all that’s left in the city.
Our friends over at sweetgreen just released their Late Summer Menu and it is not to be missed. The Watermelon + Feta is the perfect salad to cool down with. The Guacamole Greens is like a burrito bowl, turned into a healthy salad, that can only be described as delicioso.
Best Rainy/Too Hot To Be Outside Day Activity:
The New Whitney is a must this Summer. Raining? So hot that you might melt? Retreat to the New Whitney in Meatpacking. Every detail of even the building is perfect; not to mention the actual artwork. The outside area with the rainbow color chairs is every instagramers dream. Don’t forget to visit Danny Meyer’s new Untitled below the Whitney for milk and cookies.
Team S’well had the amazing opportunity to participate in two volunteer food rescues with City Harvest right in our backyard at the Union Square Green Market.
City Harvest discovered 30 years ago that up to 40% of the food produced in the United States goes to waste. They began the food rescue process where they safely recover the surplus of food from restaurants, grocers, bakeries, farmers markets, corporate cafeterias, manufacturers and farms, and distribute it to people in need. We met up with the City Harvest team to help the food rescue process. The team was excited to spend time bonding and doing something good together.
We’re so proud to say that in our two trips we collected 155 bags of produce (5,950 lbs) and 30 bags of bread (410 lbs) coming out to a total of 6,360 lbs of food to be delivered within their network of soup kitchens, food pantries and community food programs which help New Yorkers facing hunger.

We’ve composed a Father’s Day Gift Guide with insight from the dads around our office, to give you an idea of the gifts dads actually want.
Greg, our COO and dad to Amelia & Victor, said, “Since both kids will be in college next year, what I really want is a DIY Smartphone Projector ($27) and London Chimney S’well ($25-45) to match.” For the techy dads, other mentioned gifts were Bose SoundLink® Color Bluetooth® Speaker ($129) and a Fitbit Charge HR ($150).
For the dads who are young at heart, you can’t go wrong with a playful pair of socks; we especially like these Paul Smith Socks ($30).
Leo, our Senior Web Engineer and dad of Celine & Zoey, wants a ticket to jet set with his S’well. He told us that, “The Turquoise Blue S’well reminds me to take my next vacation at a Caribbean beach.”
For the dads who reach for a stiff drink after a long day (don’t we all), we recommend the Copper Moscow Mule Mugs ($20) or if they like to get creative with their drinks, check out this Whiskey and Rum Making Kit ($75).
The Stone Collection is ideal for the active guy, as Gregg, our Key Accounts Sales Manager Amie’s dad says, “The Onyx S’well bottle fits perfectly in my bike for weekend rides with the family. I appreciate knowing that my bottle can come off the bike and into my golf bag to provide a cool refreshment on the course later in the day.”
If you still can’t decide, go for a classic gift like the Harry’s Father’s Day Shave Set ($40) and pair it with a Silver Lining S’well ($35).
Looking for a deal this Father’s Day? Our bottle of the month this June is the gender neutral Tahoe Dusk | Satin Collection at 15% off, while supplies last. If you’re a procrastinator living in NYC, swing by Rothman’s in Union Square where there are tons of S’well styles to choose from at our Summer pop up.
“I thought I would be aloof in the foreign land. I see I will be home far from home”
These were Jacqueline Nyangweso’s warm words as she prepared to fly to the United States for the first time. Jacqueline owns a growing business in Kenya and is the award recipient for the prestigious Fortune/U.S. State Department Global Women’s Mentorship Partnership. The Fortune/U.S. State Department Global Women’s Mentoring Partnership connects talented, emerging women leaders from all over the world, who are between the ages of 25-43, with members of Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Leaders for a month-long program. S’well CEO and one of Fortune’s Most Powerful Women, Sarah Kauss had the pleasure of mentoring Jacqueline. The S’well team welcomed her into our home for the first two weeks in May, and she quickly became part of the S’well family.
Jacqueline is on a mission to change the lives of women all over Kenya with her microfinance business, Step & Fly. Step & Fly offers small loans to women so they can start their own businesses. She’s created a unique and successful system that includes small-business training and as a result, she boasts a 95% return rate. Through this program, she has helped single and widowed mothers to create businesses that generate enough income to allow them to feed and educate their children.
Having Jacqueline in our office has taught us that there are a lot of commonalities between Step & Fly and S’well. We have learned that businesses face the same challenges every day, whether you are a water bottle company from New York or a microfinance institution from Kenya.
S’well was able to support Jacqueline in her efforts to learn more about social media platforms, public speaking, data tracking applications, and human resources. But we had some fun along the way, as well. Our team was there with Jacqueline as she experienced her first New York slice, bagels, and even guacamole!
Jacqueline has definitely found her home away from home here at S’well. We just couldn’t resist her positive energy and addictive smile. We’ve learned so much about compassion and community while listening to her tell stories of her business. Even though our new family member is returning back to Kenya, she will always have a place to call home here at S’well.
Check out Step & Fly’s Facebook and Twitter pages and you can read more info about Step & Fly here.
We mustache you a question, but we’ll shave it for later… because Cinco de Mayo is here! Put those Derby hats away and take out your sombreros! We are ready to celebrate the best way we know how; drinking margaritas out of our S’wells and eating guacamole. Of course we can’t forget nachos and piñatas hanging around filled with candy we’ll be sure to nosh on later. So grab your amigos and celebrate Cinco de Mayo and the real beginning of Spring!
For you New York City dwellers, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best celebration spots:
Roberta’s, the infamous Bushwick pizza haven, is serving up tacos and margaritas in their outdoor tiki bar.
Empellon Cocina in East Village is hosting a prix fixe Cinco de Mayo menu with unlimited margaritas, beer and house wine for $70
If you’re craving a rooftop fix and a Mexican feast at the same time, Salvation Taco, the Mexican restaurant on top of the Pod 39 hotel will do the trick.
Mission Cantina is an office favorite. If you’re feeling more like a Netflix marathon to bring in the holiday, get their super burrito to go (or delivery). It may or may not be the best burrito this side of California.
Javelina is a new Tex-Mex spot just a few blocks away from the S’well HQ and is high on our list so if you try it before us, please let us know the verdict. We hear the avocado margarita is the way to go.
For those of you outside of the empire state, we wanted to share with you our favorite margarita and guacamole recipes. Your homemade margarita will taste even better in a S’well sitting at your local beach/park.

We’re going to be honest; winter in New York City can be brutal. We’d love to let it go and say that the cold never bothered us anyway, but the cold is really starting to bother us. There’s no escaping the bone chilling cold, those gusts of wind that can sweep you off your feet or the feeling that it’s never going to stop snowing. Even still, team S’well has been braving the weather to explore the wonders of winter in New York City.
A stroll through Bryant Park is fitting for any season. But in the winter, the famous Josephine Shaw Lowell Memorial Fountain freezes over, stopping tourists and New Yorkers in their tracks. The icicles hanging over the granite fountain resemble a crystal chandelier.

Lucky for us, our new office is located conveniently close to The City Bakery, home to that famous hot chocolate you see everyone posting on Instagram. And we totally get the hype. The rich cocoa is not to be compared and warms our bellies when we can’t feel our fingers.
